Learning and development

One of our cheeky facilitators starts this session with the following rhetorical question: ‘Who considered himself or herself a lucky man or woman this morning at the prospect of attending this session on Personal Development Plans today?’ As we hear it, an ironic ‘As if!’ always best describes the group’s initial reaction.  However, the positive reactions at the end of the session are always inversely proportional to the hesitant prior expectations. Why? Interested in knowing how to develop any competency in three months time?  That’s why.

On the one hand people feel like work has become more and more result-oriented. But on the other hand, about half of our participants admit that they have trouble specifically remembering the objectives that they set for themselves and their employees several months into the new year. Most of them have to entirely refresh their memory in preparation for their upcoming performance review a year further down the road. This session is about how managers can make significant progress with their team by setting future and positive goals together, and how to achieve them throughout the year!

Did you feel motivated and inspired during your last performance review? This is the question that usually opens the session. How many people usually raise their hand? An average of 30%. A plea against this formal conversation? Absolutely not! We consider these  30% to be the ‘bright spots’ who can teach the other participants a thing or two, in order to let everyone have a positive conversation this year!
